Making A Glitter Name

A glitter name is type of animation, which uses glitter fills to animate words etc. They can be useful to add to sites, or for use on forums.

Step One

  • Open up PSP and (Animation Shop) AS. You'll need a glitter fill (these can be found easily via google) and when you do find one you like, open it in AS. 3 frames per fill is usual, but if the glitter is large there may be more. Your screen in AS should look like this.

    Step Two

  • In PSP, go file -> new to create a new image, making sure it is large enough for your text. Then click the text button and click on your blank image, the text box should now appear.

    Step Three

  • In your text box, type in your chosen words (I am using “Paved With Stars”). Choose your font (I'm using "Will & Grace" size 26), making sure you tick the vector option. In the styles box click the fill box and choose any colour you wish, it will be gone over by the glitter so it doesn’t really matter. If you want an outline for the text, in the stroke box choose your colour, if you don’t want an outline, leave it blank. When you are happy with the settings click Ok.

    Step Four

  • You should now have something that looks like this. Now on your text, go Ctrl+C -> Ctrl+V. On the new text layer click layers -> covert to raster layer. Now comes the fun part, you get to colour in each word with glitter.

    Step Five

  • Go back to your frames in AS, and go Ctrl+C -> Ctrl+V each individual frame into PSP, making sure you keep them in the order they appear in AS. Now in PSP, click the flood fill tool and left click the foreground Colour box. A small box should appear, and on this you need to click to box named pattern. You will now see the foreground Colour box has changed.

    Step Six

  • Double click the foreground Colour box and another box will appear. In this box you will find, all the glitter fills you opened. You need to select the first fill in the sequence and then click Ok. Now you need to go to your text box and flood fill all the inside text. You should now have something that looks like this. Paste this image into AS.

    Step Seven

  • Now in PSP, undo the flood fill (Ctrl+Z) and repeat Step 6, this time with the next fill in the sequence and then undo, and then repeat. Eventually you will end up with text for each fill in AS. Make sure that each time you paste into AS, you choose the paste after current frame option. Now all you need to do is save it file -> save as.

And that’s it. You should now have something that looks like this.

And there are lots of different things you can do. You can have each letter in a different glitter, or even each word a different colour etc. Be creative and see what you can do.
