Using Imagepacks

Imagepacks can either be really very useful or a complete pain. If you see a set of brushes you particularly like, but are not compatible with your programme, if they have an imagepack then you can still use the brushes. The pain part comes in when you download a million brushes with imagepacks, as getting them working with your programme can be a bit time consuming.

Step One

  • When you have downloaded the brush set (make sure imagepacks are included) and you have unzipped the folder, inside the file there should be a jpeg/png/gif image which when you click on it, should look something like this, which is an imagepack. And each little section contains a brush.

    Step Two

  • Open the imagepack in PSP and choose the selection tool. Now draw a square or rectangle around one of the brush images inside one of the little sections. Now go CTRL+V so the brush is on it's own.

    Step Three

  • Brushes in PSP must be smaller than 255x255 for them to work, so you need to make sure the brush is smaller than that. Click shift+I to bring up the information for the brush and check the dimensions are 255x255 or less, if they are that's fine, if it's larger change the size.

    Step Four

  • Now you need to select the brush by pressing CTRL+A. When you have done that click the paintbrush tool and wait for the options box to appear. Now click the little brush symbol which says brush types and from the drop down box choose custom. Now click create from the options and then Ok.

Your new brush will now appear with the rest of your brushes. Repeat the above steps until every brush from the imagepack is part of your brush collection.
